The information below is from some commonly asked questions, if you would like to know more please get in touch.

What happens at my first appointment and assessment?

At your first visit the physiotherapist will discuss your condition and ask questions to obtain relevant information. Your physiotherapist will discuss your expectations and agree realistic rehabilitation goals with you. The assessment will include analysis of posture and movement.

Appointment Information

What clothes should I wear for my treatment?

You will be required to partially undress to assess and treat your problem appropriately. It is recommended you wear loose-fitting clothing to your appointment. Shorts are usually required for lower limb problems, and vest tops for upper limb problems.

What does neuro physio treatment involve?

Physiotherapy treatment is tailored to suit each individual and may include muscle mobilisation techniques, stretching, working towards improving movement patterns, postural re-education and control, gait (walking) re-education, balance work, and specific strengthening exercises.

How many sessions will I need?

This is individual to each patient and depends on your condition, problems and rehab goals. After your first few visit we will be able to give you an indication of how many appointments you are likely to need. Your progress will be reviewed on a regular basis until your goals are achieved or your recovery plateaus. Discussions about your progress will allow further goals to be set if there is potential for further recovery, or you can continue your exercises at home to maintain your functional level.

Can I have treatment within the NHS as well as privately?

There is usually no reason why you cannot be treated by an NHS and a private physiotherapist concurrently. The CSP (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy) recommends that both physios communicate to give you the best possible care and treatment; we will ask for your consent to do so

Is neuro physiotherapy just for neurological conditions?

Although neuro physiotherapy is primarily aimed at people with long-term neurological conditions it is also beneficial for others. For example, if you have altered movement patterns due to a long-standing injury, or balance problems.

Are you able to treat me in my own home?

At present, Lincoln Neuro Physio operates only from our base at the Lincoln Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries Clinic in North Hykeham. Lincoln is ideally placed for patients throughout Lincolnshire, and within an hour’s drive of Nottinghamshire, Humberside and South Yorkshire.
